– Reflect and learn
How is it possible to teach for the future (of management) when we only have a poor understanding of the past?. – Ricardo Semler
In a Nutshell
While companies grow, it’s also important to look back at the mistakes that they’ve made during this process and reflect on what happened. This is important so that companies remain adaptable and relevant in an ever changing corporate world. For this purpose, retrospective meetings are great for organizations and their employees.
However, it is a mindset that we need to develop in the organization as well as within the team dynamics. Retrospectives need to be organized with a lot of intention – and during the retrospecting, being mindful about three layers is needed.
Creating the space and behavior of doing a regular retrospective, within a suitable time frame, helps the team reflect on their working methods and projects. They can celebrate and implement things which are good. Where mistakes are made, a retrospective provides a safe space to analyze and learn from. Lastly, they are concluded with a plan of action, for what can be changed.
Reflecting this way can let companies see patterns emerge on their working style and create the potential to make newer and better working patterns.
